Volunteer

Are you looking for a unique leadership opportunity? Do you want to put your strategic thinking, financial forecasting, organization behaviour, education, marketing and communications, and project management talents and community giving to serve a great cause?

Are you a Black or African Canadian descendant, ally or resident of Owen Sound or the surrounding Grey Bruce Simcoe regions, previously served on this or another board, and want to share your expertise and passion for community building?

If you have enjoyed the Owen Sound Emancipation Festival picnic or want to learn more about this unique part of Canadian history and help ensure its success, we welcome you. If you hold yourself to high expectations, then you will find serving on our board very rewarding.

The Owen Sound Emancipation Festival is a not-for-profit volunteer run organization and wants leaders like you to join our board of directors and committees. The important work of the Emancipation Festival is executed by volunteers who understand how vital it is to our future that we remember and celebrate our past and continue a legacy to honour ancestors and Canada`s rich and diverse history. The board ensures that the longest continuous festival in North America continues a 160+year tradition of celebrating the emancipation from slavery over the August long weekend.

We need folks who will attend board meetings, and actively serve on one of our committees (Executive, Marketing and Communication, Sponsorship and Fundraising, Events and Entertainment and Community Outreach).

There are also many ways that committee members can help our organization with the gift of your time. Whether it’s a few hours a week, month or year, you can make a significant difference.

Thank you for supporting the Owen Sound Emancipation Festival!
